Smoke Hollow is a Georgia-based company that sells grills, smokers, and related accessories. This Smoke Hollow electric smoker is a great tool for smoking all kinds of food during any time of the year. It offers several advantages over traditional smokers, such as its ability to imbue various foods with flavors and textures that no other method of cooking can. If you’re looking to try a new smoker out, this is a great choice.

Product Specs

This Smoke Hollow electric smoker is their 3616DEWS model, which stands tall at 47.4 inches and has a cooking space of 36 inches. This translates to a height of nearly 4 feet and a cooking space of 3 feet; it would fit perfectly on the ground or small table on a deck or patio. The inside features 4 chrome-plated grids which you can adjust to create 4 shelves with as much space as you need for each. This comes in handy when you are smoking lots of items at once and need multiple shelves to separate them.

At the top of the unit is a digital controller that allows you to set the time and temperature according to your needs. Down the front is a sturdy tempered glass window that lets you see into your cooking space. You don’t have to open it up and lose steam every time you want to check on whether your food looks like it’s ready or not. And finally, at the bottom is an external-loading wood chip tray. You can add or take away move chips at any time before, during, and after the cooking process.

Pricing

This Smoke Hollow Electric Smoker (3616DEWS model) can be purchased on Amazon.com for around $250.

Ease of Use

The one thing that could make an electric smoker difficult to use is lack of consistency with how the temperature controls work. Fortunately, with this smoker that is not an issue. The temperature controls are spot on, allowing you to dial in the exact degree of heat you need. In addition to this, performing maintenance on the unit is not a problem. There aren’t too many crevices that are difficult to reach.

Capacity

For an electric smoker of this size, having a 720 sq. in. cooking space is pretty average. This Smoke Hollow electric smoker is not the largest on the market, but the largest does not always mean the best.

Design Quality

Our favorite design aspect of this smoker is the way this Smoke Hollow electric smoker has legs to keep it off the ground. Having it off the ground gives the smoker better ventilation, which keeps it from overheating. On the downside, some users have reported that the wiring for their unit was faulty, and this seems to be on a case-by-case basis.

Warranty

According to the manufacturer’s website, all parts of the unit are guaranteed against defects for 1 year from the date of purchase except for the paint, which is guaranteed for 90 days from the date of purchase.

Pros

  • Features digital controls
  • Fairly large in size
  • Has great ventilation
  • Warranty is fair

Cons

  • Wiring is faulty sometimes

Masterbuilt 20077515 Front Controller Electric Smoker

Masterbuilt 20077515 Front Controller Electric Smoker with Window and...
  • 730 sq inches of cooking space with 4 chrome-coated racks and 800 watt heating element with full foam insulation
  • Blue led display makes reading temperatures and cooking time in direct sunlight easy
  • Rf remote controls and monitors temperature, time, internal light, on/off and meat temperature

The Masterbuilt 20077515 is more expensive than the Smoke Hollow electric smoker we just looked at, but there is a reason to justify this. This smoker’s selling point is its remote control which allows you to control the various features of the machine from afar. You can easily attend to and monitor all aspects of the smoker without having to stand right by it. The internal light, temperature, and power can all be changed, which is super convenient.

As far as size and other parts of this Masterbuilt, it has 730 sq, in. of cooking space, which is just a tad bit bigger than then Smoke Hollow electric smoker. If you aren’t satisfied with that size, the Masterbuilt also comes in a larger size for even larger meals.

Ease of Use

This thing has everything you could ask for, especially the remote control. It’s nice to be able to check on how the food is doing without having to hover over the machine. This feature gives it the perfect rating that it deserves.

Capacity

As if the smoker was not already large enough, Masterbuilt also created a wider version of the 20077515 that gives you 10 extra inches of space to work with. The larger version of this unit, which is 40″ in width, is the largest smoker we will be looking at in this review.

Design Quality

This electric smoker seems to be hit or miss with customers. It is fantastic when it works properly but sometimes doesn’t last from season to season. Issues like this are usually due to poor quality wiring, and that is most likely the issue here. Those who complain about the smoker usually cite problems that stem from problems with the engineering.

Warranty

Masterbuilt only guarantees this product for 90 days from the date of purchase, and this does not include the paint. Compared to the Smoke Hollow electric smoker, this is not very long.

Pros

  • Can be controlled remotely
  • Very large

Cons

  • Engineering can be faulty at times
  • Warranty does not last very long

Pit Boss Grills 77221 2.2 Digital Smoker

Pit Boss Grills 77221 2.2 Digital Smoker
  • Push-button digital control panel with LED read-out for cabinet temperature and meat probe
  • Includes three porcelain coated cooking racks, 593 sq in. Porcelain coated water pan.
  • Double walled construction with blanket insulation

In the realm of smokers, when you opt for a more budget-friendly item, you often trade size for quality. That is to be seen here with the Pit Boss Brills 7721 2.2, the most inexpensive electric smoker in this review. It has most of the same features as the other smokers we have reviewed so far, but it only has 596 sq. in. of cooking space. For this reason, it only has 3 shelves.

Legs similar to the ones the Smoke Hollow electric smoker has give it some height, making it easier to reach all parts of the unit when it is sitting on the ground. Its digital control pad is at the bottom of the oven, so you’ll have to kneel or squat in order to modify the controls. In ever other aspect, this smoker is built like the Smoke Hollow smoker. This is essentially a miniature version of it with the controls located at the bottom instead of the top.

Price $
Ease of Use

The controls are easy to use, but they are located too low to the ground. This means in order to change any settings on the smoker, you have to get low to the ground. This can be uncomfortable to some people. Not everyone wants to have to squat down to make simple adjustments.

Capacity

The Pit Boss Grills offers a good amount of space for its price. It allows you to cook a decent amount of food at once. You will most likely want something larger for larger cooking projects, however.

Design Quality

The encasing itself is very strong, but the electronics inside are not of the same quality as some other products on the market right now. As it is often said, “you get what you pay for,” and that is true here.

Warranty

Pit Boss carries a 5-year warranty on all defects and parts. This is amazing compared to the other warranties we have looked at so far and is a great selling point for the product. Maybe this smoker’s design quality isn’t on par with the others we have looked at, but the warranty more than makes up for that.

Pros

  • Comes with a gracious 5-year warranty
  • Has legs for easier access to the units controls
  • Offers a lot in a small package

Cons

  • Cooking area is a little small
  • Controls are located too low to the ground
  • Engineering is not the best

Char-Broil Deluxe Digital Electric Smoker

Char-Broil Deluxe Digital Electric Smoker, 725 Square Inch
  • Insulated, double-wall construction
  • Advanced control panel with easy-read, blue LED display
  • Removable food thermometer

If you liked the Masterbuilt 20077515 but weren’t necessarily interested in the ability to monitor and control the smoker from a distance, then you’ll love the Char-Broil Deluxe Digital Electric Smoker. This smoker is similar in its construction and 725 sq. in. cooking size but lacks the remote controls. And, although it lacks the remote control capabilities, it comes with a detachable food thermometer.

Other than the removable food thermometer, this Char-Broil smoker is pretty run-of-the-mill in terms of features. Again, just imagine the Masterbuilt 20077515 without the controller. The positive to it not coming with a controller is that the price is a little cheaper, and this can be a make or break issue for some.

Price $$
Ease of Use

The smoker’s controls are easy to use with a very simplistic display. As long as you are familiar with the basics of smoking, using it should not pose you any problems.

Capacity

This is the perfect size for electric smokers in this price range, but we have seen larger. This one is nearly perfect and exactly what you would want and expect from something of this caliber.

Design Quality

The design quality is very similar to the smokers we have already mentioned in this review. These smokers have stainless steel exteriors that protect them from danger, but this does not always prevent electronic failure. This is the gamble you take when dealing with electronic items.

Warranty

Char-Broil warrants all parts for 1-year from the date of purchase, which is definitely fair.

Pros

  • Comes with a removable food thermometer
  • Is a good size for most cooking applications
  • Has a fair warranty

Cons

  • Electronics are not the best quality

Conclusion

After looking at all these electric smokers and taking their pros and cons into consideration, we believe the Masterbuilt 20077515 is the best one listed. We give it a 4.5 and feel that its remote control and large size set it apart from the other smokers we have reviewed. It deserves the praise it receives and believe it deserves the credit it gets.
